Mayor’s Civic Duties and Announcement July 2026
Building a more positive community and embracing every opportunity!
This month’s Mayor’s Civic duties have included the following:
27.06.2026
The Mayor was asked
to open a new refurbish unit at
Kirksanton
Care Home. Very warm morning.
28.06.2026
The Deputy Mayor and I attended the Ulverston Civic Sunday.
29.06.2026
I was asked by the new Headteacher Mr. Stephen Kelly
to show him Millom and Haverigg. Our journey took us
to the South Cumbria Skills Exchange,
The Iron Line, Millom Park, Haverigg Ninja Park, Old Bank and finally the Heritage Museum. Discussion
as to what makes the Community,
Local groups, sport groups,
History groups, deprivation
and its effect on education.
Good PR and highly commendable initiative
from a new member of our community. I did give Mr Kelly a copy of last Community Plan.
30.06.2026
Met with Reverend Graham Hollowood and Berresford
Moyle Rosser to discuss Remembrance Service and Millom Civic Sunday.
01.07.2026
Attended Millom Memorial at 11 o’clock to remember all that fell
during the Battle of the Somme
from this community.
02.07.2026
I was invited by Ulverston Town Council to take part in their Battle of the Somme commemoration. On the
day in a small room, we saw over 200 people. Very humbling. People remembered
grandparents and great-
uncles who never returned.
06.07.2027
“Everyone Active” provided a workshop to inform the Council how the new Leisure
Centre will operate and how stakeholders are being invited to get involved. Special thanks to Tom Rice. A very good meeting.
07.07.2026 The Chair and I met with Elaine Chapman regarding the schedule
of the Prison workforce and the impact on
the community during August.
16.07.2026 I presented “Shackles Off” with a cheque from the mayor’s appeal.
21.07.2026 I had pleasure in presenting a cheque to St Mary’s Hospice.
23.07.2026 Met with Mr Terry Marsh Parade Marshal to fill in
and complete the Remembrance Day Risk Assessment.
25.07.2026 RNLI Open Day. Lovely atmosphere
even though the rain did arrive.
Request
I would like to create a poster for caravan offices that would include a reminder of tides times/no
barbeques on the shore/no electric scooters/no motor bikes on the SSSI sites (sand dunes) and a polite reminder
to pick up dog poo.
