Last week (23 – 29 June), we showcased our work during Neighbourhood Policing Week.
Our team continues to work hard to tackle anti-social behaviour, support vulnerable residents, visit local schools, and host community events. Your feedback is essential.

Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week
#MakingCommunitiesSafer is this year’s theme, focusing on victim support, better justice system responses, and stronger agency collaboration. Officers will be engaging with the public throughout the week.

Neighbourhood Policing Week Highlights
We highlighted the year-round work of our Neighbourhood Policing Teams, including crime reduction, supporting vulnerable people, and building local partnerships.

A Day with Millom Community Beat Officers
On 28 June, PCs Emily Tyson and Matthew Garett:
- Chased and helped arrest a wanted male in Cleator Moor
- Assisted a motorist with a flat tyre in Millom
- Attended Millom-FEST (unfortunately cancelled due to weather)
Drug Activity in Millom and Haverigg
Based on community feedback, we’ve increased action in response to local drug concerns:
- 5 Apr – Male arrested for drug supply (investigation ongoing)
- 11 Apr – Operation Bologna executed three warrants in Millom
- 9 Jun – Male arrested following failed roadside drug test

Man Sentenced – Millom Incident
Robert Dias (JNR) was charged following a 29 May incident in Millom. He pled guilty and received 60 weeks in custody plus a two-year restraining order prohibiting entry to Millom.
Operation Enhance: £1M to Tackle Violence & ASB
New funding will boost patrols in 18 ASB/violence hotspots across Cumbria. Areas include Whitehaven, Workington, Cleator Moor, Carlisle, Barrow, and others.

Ninja Sword Surrender – July Only
Possession of “ninja swords” becomes illegal on 1 August 2025. Surrender your item safely at police stations in Carlisle, Whitehaven, Workington, Barrow, Kendal, or Penrith to qualify for Home Office compensation.
Pol-Ed Educational Programme
This new in-school programme teaches children about law, citizenship, bullying, grooming, and more. Over 3,700 students reached in the first two weeks.
Operation Spotlight – Road Safety
Targeting the “Fatal Four”: speeding, mobile use, no seatbelts, and driving under the influence. More than 150 arrests were made in the previous operation.
