Mayor’s Civic Duties and Announcements – February 2026

Building a more positive community and embracing every opportunity!

In the Community, for the Community!

This month’s Mayor’s civic duties included the following:

  1. 29 January 2026 – Thanks were given to Deputy Mayor Councillor Kellet for representing Millom Town Council at the funeral of Frank McPhillips, a former Councillor and Mayor of Millom.
  2. 31 January 2026 – Attendance at the memorial service of Ruth Peters, a former Councillor and Mayor of Millom, along with two other Millom Councillors.
  3. 3 February 2026 – Attendance at Millom Town Deal public consultation regarding two design options for the town square.
  4. 4 February 2026 – Meeting with Mel Narongchai, Head of Haverigg School.
  5. 5 February 2026 – Teams meeting with Chris Bundock to explain the council’s decision not to proceed with the purchase of the Salvation Army building.
  6. 5 February 2026 – Meeting with a concerned parent.
  7. 6 February 2026 – Meeting with Elaine Chapman regarding the prison workforce.
  8. 6 February 2026 – Council meeting with Chief Police Commissioner David Allen and MP Michelle Scrogham, organised by the MP’s office. Councillor attendance was strong, and the meeting was productive.
  9. 10 February 2026 – Attendance at Millom Town Deal public consultation regarding the town square design options. Public attendance was positive, including enthusiastic participation from Black Combe School Year 5 and 6 pupils.
  10. 11 February 2026 – Attendance at a chair exercise group session for older residents, led by Bella Howes.
  11. 14 February 2026 – Attendance at the pantomime “Robin Hood” at the Palladium with Deputy Mayor Councillor Kellet.
  12. 18 February 2026 – Attendance at the Millom Outreach event at Millom Hub.
  13. 18 February 2026 – Attendance at the Millom Community Plan meeting.
  14. 19 February 2026 – Attendance at “The Harp of King David” event at St George’s Church.
  15. 23 February 2026 – Meeting with Councillor Liebhart and Councillor Amos-Milburn regarding the Business Forum and Community Plan updates.
  16. 24 February 2026 – Iron Line site visit.

Town Deal Meetings and Events

  • Seven Town Deal meetings were held during the month.
  • Two public drop-in sessions were held at Millom Town Deal Market Square between 4pm and 8pm.
