In this issue, we’ll share updates on our recent activities.
Over the festive period we are running a number of operations to keep our communities safe.
We are also running media campaigns over the festive period to keep safety advice at the forefront of people’s minds, so they can take steps to protect themselves from crime.

Safer Business Action Week – 10 to 16 November
We took part in the national Safer Business Action Week, which is action led by the National Business Crime Centre focusing on tackling retail crime, anti-social behaviour and other crimes impacting businesses in local communities.
We visited 25 local shops and farms to provide crime prevention advice and handed out 21 Selecta DNA kits to local businesses. Officers also conducted two days of activity to target shoplifting; no arrests were made but a number of businesses engaged with.
Neighbourhood Policing Conference and Awards
Neighbourhood policing officers in Cumbria have been recognised for their hard work within our communities at the neighbourhood policing award 2025.
The awards were held during Cumbria Constabulary’s Neighbourhood Policing Conference which were held on 24 November.
The conference was attended by Sarah Jones, Minister of State for Crime, Policing and Fire of the United Kingdom.
Police advise people to understand the laws on e-scooters
Officers are asking parents and carers who may be considering buying or gifting an e-scooter this Christmas to be aware of the laws and potential serious injury they can cause.
E-scooters are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988. This means the rules that apply to motor vehicles also apply to e-scooters including the need to have a licence and insurance.
Drug Activity Community Appeal
We are looking to challenge the use and supply of drugs in this area.
Tell us about:
- Suspicious activity on your street
- Suspicious people or vehicles on your street
- Drug supply in your community
- Any concerns about crime in your neighbourhood

Follow our top tips to avoid online shopping scams this festive season.
- Research sellers, check they’re legitimate.
- Use a credit card or secure payment platform.
- Only provide enough details to complete your purchase.
Wanted this winter – public appeal launched for 12 wanted people across Cumbria
We are appealing for information on people currently wanted.
The appeal has been launched as officers take action over the festive period to tackle criminality, with this appeal aiming to progress investigations ensuring those who commit crimes in this county are brought to justice.
Detective Inspector Dave Howard, from Cumbria Constabulary, said:
“We have issued this appeal for the public’s assistance in locating the named individuals.
“We have officers out in our communities looking for these individuals, but public information always will be important in assisting our work to ensure we secure justice for victims.
“The appeals are connected to ongoing investigations covering a range of crimes.
“People in Cumbria know where these individuals are. Please pick up the phone and contact Cumbria Police or do so anonymously via Crimestoppers.”

Our Priorities – You said, we did
You said, we did – Anti-social driving and use of E-scooters in Millom Town Centre and Haverigg.
The main locations reported are Horn Hill (near junction to Moor Road and North Lane), Kirksanton, Silecroft, The Green & The Hill.
Throughout November, we continue to target this issue with checks by PCSOs and officers.
- 1 November – Checks around Tesco’s car park, Lancashire Road and Devonshire Road. No issues reported.
- 2 November – Checks around Devonshire Road, Tesco’s car park and Silecroft around the beach road and car park areas. No issues reported.
- 8 November – Speed checks 4pm to 6pm at The Hill, Millom. No speeding issues.
- 8 November – 6pm checks at road down to beach car park and surrounding area; no issues reported.
- We are aware of issues on A5093 and are working to address the issue alongside partners.
Extra patrols in your area!
Officers in Copeland NPT are continuing to tackle and prevent anti-social behaviour in the area to make your streets safer. Police are out day and night in the winter weather speaking to residents and businesses, making arrests and securing community behaviour orders to protect our communities.
Across the whole of Op Enhance in October, officers carried out 36 stop searches, 40 intel submissions, 3 uses of ASB powers and 7 traffic offences were reported.
The operation has been made possible thanks to £1 million of extra funding secured by David Allen, Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, from the Government’s Hotspot Response Fund.

Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship
Did you know you can join Cumbria Constabulary as a degree apprentice and work towards a degree whilst serving as a student officer with active frontline duties?
Police Constable Entry Programme (PCEP)
This is a two-year programme which gives a blend of practical on-the-job experience and classroom-based learning. You will then go on to your allocated station.
Professional Policing Degree Graduate (PPD)
To be eligible to apply, you will need to have taken a three-year BSc Professional Policing programme offered by universities licensed by the College of Policing.
PCEP DC pathway
Our Detective entry programme (PCEP DC) is open for applications. The two-year programme is designed to equip you with all the skills and training necessary to ensure that on completion you will be a highly competent detective constable.
