Millom Town Council
Chairman’s Report – August / September 2025
- July/Aug – met with MP Michelle Scrogham, United Utilities, Cumberland Highways representatives, Millom Flood Group and Cumberland Councillors to discuss the way forward in relation to the flooding issues this town has.
A plan has been put in place for MTC to collaborate with the Highways Assistant Director for gulley cleaning of our roads and streets. This will, hopefully, alleviate issues of blocked drains etc. The first gulley cleaning began on the 1st September and will continue on a rota on the first Monday of every month. A press release has been sent out asking all residents of Market Street, Lonsdale Road, Lancashire Road, Rottington Road to ensure that all vehicles are not parked over drains.
- Visited treatment plant on 9th September as had a complaint from a resident regarding the pungent smells coming from the area.
- Proludic – ongoing with some minor works to be carried out at no cost to MTC after these issues found on maintenance checks.
- Solar Lighting – to meet with Cumberland officer for a site visit looking at the possibility of solar lighting on the Queens Park back path.
- Working closely with the contractors putting in the new pathways in the Millom Park and the drainage issues. Contractors now installed new drains in park and this appears to be working well.
- Overseen the installation of electric into the Palladium Gardens.
- Meeting with Pump Track designers on 26th September to obtain a 2nd quote.
