Due to time constraints this meeting was held to discuss the possibility of purchasing the Salvation Army Building in Nelson Street. The chair informed the council that Cllr Faulkner and himself had had a look around the building and as far as the eye could see the building was in a good condition. They felt that the opportunity to buy the property as a youth/community centre for the town was an excellent opportunity.
The chair suggested that if successful it would be beneficial to seek an operator to run the building on behalf of MTC. Cllr Faulkner and himself had also spoken to the leaders of the Shackles Off programme to seek information as to whether they would be prepared to look into the running of the building if it was purchased. Shackles Off have been invited to give a presentation of their work at the June meeting. As there was a purchase offer of £50,000 on the table already from an unknown buyer.
Cllr McGrath proposed the following motion:
This motion was seconded by Cllr Faulkner and all agreed to proceed with the offer.
Cllr Faulkner proposed that a funding application be made by the clerk, this was seconded by Cllr McGrath and agreed.
Action: Clerk to contact Salvation Army representative and make an offer. Clerk to source local solicitor if accepted. Clerk to apply for funding subject to acceptance of offer.
There being no further business the meeting closed at 7.30pm.
