Nuclear Waste Services announce areas of focus in the GDF Programme
Nuclear Waste Services is delivering a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) as the safe, secure, and long-term solution for the most hazardous radioactive waste.
Today we are publishing details of the Areas of Focus (sub-surface, surface and accessways) within the three communities of Mid Copeland, South Copeland in Cumbria, and Theddlethorpe in Lincolnshire.
We are not identifying an exact site, the Areas of Focus are geographical areas that we could take forward for more detailed investigations.
We will be holding events in local communities to talk about what this means for them and all information will be on our website today Homepage – Nuclear Waste Services
This is a significant milestone for the GDF siting process as we progress to on-the ground surveys, further desk studies and engagement with landowners. All this work will enable us to submit a decision on which community to take forward to the next stage – site characterisation which is where we need to drill deep boreholes
