The Mayor opened the meeting stating that the last month had been very busy with lots of meetings with play park providers and thanked Simon Donnelly for his help in arranging these. The Mayor’s coffee morning on 31st August was a huge success and raised £470 towards the Mayor’s Charity fund, a big thank you to all who helped make it a success.
The Mayor met with Julie Wedgewood about training to help people get back to work. The program is expected to launch next month. The work and skills centre on Devonshire Road is progressing well with office space and high-speed broadband.
The Food Pantry is helping 50 families a week which is exceeding expectations.
The Mayor and Cllr Dixon attended the Rotary Dinner. The Rotary chair is donating to the school garden project at Millom School. Jack Proctor gave an interesting talk on iron extraction.
The Mayor and Cllr Jakubowski attended a Heritage Lottery funding workshop that was very useful. Councillors have a park walkabout on Thursday 26th, starting at 10am in Haverigg.
The Mayor highlighted the newly formed Millom and Haverigg Civic Society, which aims to respect and understand local heritage. They are connecting with others and plan to build a website. They will work with MTC to advance heritage projects.
The Mayor requested a list of meetings to be emailed at the beginning of each month and updated if new meetings are added. ACTION: Clerk
The Mayor welcomed Deacon Debbie Harkness as the council’s pastor for the year.
Cllr R Peter, Cllr A Dixon & Cllr D Billing declared an interest in item 19 – Millom Network Centre, as board members and volunteers.
The Mayor requested Item 7 be moved to allow the STEM students to leave early – All Agreed.
