Finance Committee Meeting – 26th February 2025

MINUTES OF A MEETING OF MILLOM TOWN COUNCIL FINANCE COMMITTEE HELD ON Wednesday 26th February 2025 AT 18:00 In Millom Methodist Hall

Present:

Cllr G McGrath, Cllr S Faulkner, Cllr B Kelly, Cllr L Gager-Liebhart, Cllr R Williamson, Clerk Cath Jopson and RFO/Assistant Clerk Gillian Hoyle

180/24: Apologies

None given

181/24: Declarations of Pecuniary Interest

None declared.

182/24: Minutes of Previous Meeting 27th November 2024

A draft copy of the minutes had been circulated to all councillors for their perusal and amendment if required. There were no actions outstanding.

Minutes were agreed as a true record. Proposed by Cllr R. Williamson and Seconded by Cllr S. Faulkner.

183/24: 2024/25 Quarter 3 Budget Monitoring

The RFO had prepared and circulated a budget spreadsheet for 24/25 showing the third quarter spending.

The RFO explained there was no out of budget spending, and hopefully, with no unplanned expenses before 31 March, the precept should balance. This was all agreed.

184/24: Millom Park Repairs

The Clerk explained of a further quote for repair to the Millom Play Park equipment. This equipment should be periodically maintained to prevent further large repairs, and we need to investigate this ongoing maintenance.

Cllr Kelly said Egremont and Cleator had a contract with Cumberland for park maintenance, and it was agreed that this would be pursued and fed back.

Cllr Williamson proposed we do the current quoted repairs, whilst we investigate ongoing maintenance. This was seconded by Cllr Kelly and agreed.

185/24: Park Grass Cutting Contract

The current contract ends in March 2025 and the current contractor had provided a new quote. This was discussed and Cllr Williamson said the quote had no measurable detail. It was agreed to build a new rolling contract that we would be able to measure value for money and quality of work. Given the value of the contract, this will be discussed with full council.

186/24: Any Other Business

The RFO showed the committee a price comparison for the water. This would be on a 3-year contract and had been supplied by a comparison company.

Cllr McGrath suggested the RFO speak with the current supplier and compare the quotes and bring these back to council.

There being no further business the meeting closed at 18:30pm
