The Statutory Instrument for the new Cumbria combined authority was signed on 23rd Feb 2026 and comes into force on the 24th Feb 2026. The first meeting will be on the 18th March 2026 John Barradell will be the interim chief officer and will work with the leaders of Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness (Mark Fryer and Johnathn Brook) It should bring £333 million extra funding over the next 30 years to deliver extra delegated powers to be delivered locally rather than from Westminster.

South Copeland GDF meeting 8th April NWS will be submitting this spring to the secretary of state a recommendation to either proceed to do exploratory boreholes out to sea and in the tunnel access areas or not to proceed. If the outcome is to proceed a development control order will be applied for this could take up to 5 years to gain.
