MTC Mayor Making – 28th May 2025

MINUTES OF MAYOR MAKING MEETING OF MILLOM TOWN COUNCIL
HELD ON WEDNESDAY 28th MAY 2025 COMMENCING 07.15PM IN THE METHODIST HALL, MILLOM

PRESENT: Cllr G McGrath (Chair), Cllr S Faulkner, Cllr J Brown, Cllr J Kellett, Cllr R Williamson, Cllr D Billing, Cllr B Crellin, Cllr E Chatterton, Cllr D Myers, Cllr MacDonald, Cumberland Cllr/MTC Cllr B Kelly, Cumberland Cllr A Pratt and 4 members of the public were also in attendance.

Prior to the start of the meeting Cllr McGrath resigned from his positions stating that he now wanted to cease his role of chair and councillor to enjoy his retirement. Cllr Faulkner asked for a vote of thanks and thanked Cllr McGrath for all his hard work and knowledge during his 10-years of service to the community and the town council wishing him a happy retirement. Following this Cllr McGrath left the meeting.

The meeting was then handed over to the Clerk.

08/25: ELECTION OF CHAIR

The Clerk informed the council that there had been one submission of interest for the role of Chair from Cllr Williamson and asked if anyone else wanted to step up. As no other interest was made the clerk proposed that Cllr Williamson be duly elected as chair for the forthcoming year, this was seconded by Cllr Myers and all agreed. Cllr Williamson then duly signed his Office of Acceptance and took over the meeting.

Action: Clerk to do all necessary paperwork.

09/25: ELECTION OF MAYOR

Cllr Brown proposed that Cllr Simone Faulkner remain as mayor for the forthcoming year. This was seconded by Cllr Kelly and all agreed. Cllr Faulkner accepted the role stating that she was only prepared to carry out this duty for a further 12-months only. Cllr Faulkner then proceeded to duly sign the Office of Acceptance.

10/25: ELECTION OF DEPUTY MAYOR

Cllr Brown proposed that Cllr Joan Kellett remain as deputy mayor for the forthcoming year, this was again seconded by Cllr Kelly and all agreed. Cllr Kellett then duly signed the Office of Acceptance.

11/25: DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST

There were no declarations of interest brought to council.

12/25: TO APPOINT REPRESENTATIVES ON OUTSIDE BODIES

The following were appointed representatives on the outside bodies:

  • CGP Trust Fund – Cllrs J Brown (Chair), Cllr Faulkner, Cllr Crellin, Cllr Liebhart, Cllr Kelly and Cllr Williamson
  • South Copeland Partnership: Clerk to contact D Savage, chair of this group to see if it still in operation.
  • Silecroft Education Trust: Cllr S Faulkner
  • Ghyll Scaur Quarry – As Cllr Kelly and Cllr Pratt attend these meetings it was felt that they could feed back to MTC.
  • Norman Nicholson Trust: Cllr Faulkner
  • Millom Town Deal – Cllr Faulkner
  • WCSSG – Cllr Billing and Cllr Williamson
  • Cumbria Constabulary Neighbourhood Policing Pledge – Cllr Faulkner, Cllr A MacDonald and the Clerk

13/25: TO APPOINT FINANCE COMMITTEE

The following councillors will make up the Finance Committee:

  • Cllr Faulkner
  • Cllr Williamson
  • Cllr Kelly
  • Cllr Liebhart
  • Cllr Myers

14/25: OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

No members of the public raised any questions.

There being no further business the meeting closed at 07.25pm
