The Mayor told the meeting that the toddler section of the park is currently closed and urgent action is needed to get the park open and accessible to the public again as soon as possible.
Cllr T. Dixon has been looking over the council’s budget including any contingency budget that we may have. TD informed the council that we could commit £12,500 to the park immediately. It was noted that we had received a business rate refund for the toilet block at Haverigg and some of this could be used, but we should look to hold at least £10,000 specifically for the toilets.
There are also several possible funding streams that are being looked at. So it was PROPOSED that we look to spend approximately £15,000–£16,000 on new play equipment – ALL AGREED.
The Clerk stated that we are looking at a lead time of 8–10 weeks for the new equipment as it is all made to order. A visit from Playdale is happening this week to move things forward.
The question about CCTV was raised and TD stated that following June’s council meeting it was agreed that if nothing further had been received via the PCC prior to the July full council meeting then the council would revert back to obtaining our own system.
The Clerk informed the meeting that several quotes had been tried to be obtained but this was the only one that came back in.
RK pointed out that the first 3 pieces had been removed free of charge and asked if this person had been contacted. The Clerk informed that the said person had now retired so was unavailable.
It was PROPOSED to go ahead with the quote of £1200 from JW Plant Solutions – ALL AGREED.
It was asked if maybe he could remove some of the toddler equipment while he was up there – ACTION: Clerk to contact.
The Chair asked the members of the public to leave the meeting while this item was discussed. The RFO explained the new scales due to new job roles and the appointment of a new assistant clerk.
ALL AGREED to the new scales as approved by NALC. ACTION: Clerk to update Payroll Company.
The members of the public were invited back into the meeting.
Millom TC Extraordinary 8th July 2019
The Mayor finished off by saying that she and the Clerk are due to attend a funding fair this week to gain access to possible funding streams.
Although we have been let down by the Lottery, the SCDG still hope to find other possible funding sources.
GB asked that we ensure RoSPA carry out their annual inspections. It was noted also that some work is needed at Haverigg Park, and we will look into this also.
RP asked that any new equipment is accessible to all.
TD informed the meeting that the STEM group at Millom School are working on a project to design and build some musical instruments that will eventually go into the Sensory Garden in Millom Park. It was asked if this group of girls could be invited to the September meeting to present their ideas.
ACTION: Clerk to contact.
RK asked that the public are made aware of our suggestion box and the council will welcome any ideas either via the suggestion box or by emailing the Clerk.
Meeting closed at 18.49.
