185/19 Precept – To Give Preliminary Consideration for the 2020/21 Precept Requirement
Cllr T Dixon thanked the clerk for preparing a draft budget for the 2020/21 year. Cllr T Dixon has looked thoroughly at the figures and the following comments and adjustments were made:
- Our headline draft figure is £133,480 – 10.8% which equates to approximately 3% of the total council tax. In monetary terms that means weekly amount for band D of £1.27 and band A 85p. It was noted that MTC are now subsidising more services in the area to keep these available.
- Our key aims in the coming year are: possibly revamp both toilets units, MUGA resurfacing & re-fenced, possible new items at Haverigg Park, the bus service will continue and maybe expanding.
- The committee went through each heading and the main changes were:
- Donations increase to £3000 to allow MTC to help more charities
- Seats and paths been changed to town maintenance and to increase to £500 to help assist HMP with the community work by supplying materials etc.
- Training and sundries up to £1500 to allow for clerk training and new councillor training
- Christmas lights – the contract is due for renewal this year so the figure is been kept to allow for new lights
- Project costs increased to £10k to allow us to carry out some of our key aims
- Xmas market – MTC now have 10 market stalls that are available for locals to hire out if they so wish at local events – Clerk to advertise this.
- All other costs were kept in line with current expenditure
- After all the adjustments the new figure for the precept was £131,680 which gives a % increase from last year of £9.27% which equates to band D £5.73 per year (£1.10 per wk.) and band A £3.18 per year (73p per wk.) – This figure will be agreed at full council on 29th January.
