Millom Town Council
Millom Town Council was formed in 1974 when the parish boundaries changed from Cumberland.

Cllr B. Kelly (in the Chair), Cllr S. Faulkner, Cllr J. Brown, Cllr D. Billing, Cllr D. Burness, Cllr McGrath,
Cllr S. Peter, Cllr R. Pattinson, Cllr B. Amos, Cllr B. Crellin, and Town Clerk Cath Jopson.
Sergeant Dave MacDonald, Beat Officer Constable 2518 Kai Diesveld, and two members of the public were in attendance.
Prior to the meeting, Cllr Kelly informed the Council and public that the meeting was being recorded,
and then welcomed everyone to the Annual Town Meeting.
Cllr Kelly proposed that Mrs Cath Jopson be appointed as Clerk for the meeting. This was seconded by Cllr J. Brown and agreed by all.
Apologies were received from Cllr R. Peter due to ill health.
Cllr McGrath proposed that the minutes of the meeting held on 25 May 2022 be signed as a true and correct record.
Seconded by Cllr Crellin and agreed.
Cllr Kelly gave a short presentation on his role in the newly formed Cumberland Council, expressing hope that operations
would run more smoothly under a single authority.
He highlighted Town Council achievements and progress during the year, including:
Town Deal Update: Four schemes were discussed:
Sergeant Dave MacDonald attended with the new community beat officer, Constable 2518 Kai Diesveld, and delivered
the annual policing report covering May 2022 to May 2023.
He reported that the number of calls requiring incident logs in the Millom area increased from 719 (2021–2022)
to 788 (2022–2023), noting that this represented “high-level data.”
In response to a query from Cllr Amos about reporting options, Sgt MacDonald agreed to provide further details to the Clerk.
Cllr Kelly gave a further presentation regarding the establishment of the new Cumberland Authority.
He confirmed that he serves as the representative for Millom and explained that both Copeland and Cumbria County Councils
had been merged into the new authority.
He acknowledged teething problems related to data transfer and systems but expressed optimism that once resolved,
the unified authority would deliver improvements across Millom and Haverigg more efficiently.
A member of the public asked questions relating to arrests, which were answered by Sgt MacDonald.
No further questions were raised.
Cllr Kelly thanked Sgt MacDonald and Constable Diesveld for attending and providing their report.
